Alltel is currently America's largest regional mobile phone carrier, with a total of over 10 million wireless subscribers in 36 states. The company primarily focuses on small to medium-sized cities, mostly in the central and southeastern United States.

The main Alltel cellular network operates using CDMA wireless technology. Its AMTS-based analog network is also still available, serving about 15% of the company's userbase.

There roaming agreements allowing Alltel customers to use networks of Verizon, Cingular, Sprint PCS, and US Cellular, as well as several major Canadian carriers, when outside of their native service areas.

Alltel-branded cell phones are available at select retail stores, and through the company's website, Alltel.com.
