    MTS is the incumbent local and long distance telephone carrier in the central Canadian province of Manitoba. It greatly increased its number of customers in 2004, by acquiring the popular long distance provider, Allstream (formerly known as AT&T Canada).

    It is still the most popular provider in most parts of that province, but has come under increasing competitive pressure in recent years, largely due to the growing popularity of cell phones and VoIP services.
